Tetris Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

As any major honors show approaches, you'll find an outcry for introducing of new categories to honor unsung work and satisfy the hearts of followers with niche passions.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. The same goes for board games, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case for why my demand remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, showing incredible range they hardly constitute as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types effectively encompass many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Only a few logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're small games, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
