Advisories are also active for areas in the neighboring country encompassing the capital, Port au Prince, the adjacent nation and the eastern part of Cuba, where the hurricane is anticipated to bring comparable impacts by the midweek period.

Rock slides currently triggered by the cyclone have caused two deaths in Haiti, according to local authorities.

Melissa is forecast to move across the island nation by the middle of the week before moving through the Antillas Mayores and entering the Atlantic Ocean.
